Alcohol |
Alcohol can worsen a Sinus Infection. Often not so much because of an allergy to alcohol, but because alcohol functions directly as a diuretic. Alcohol often causes patients to become dehydrated, this leads to the drying and thickening of the mucus. When the mucus becomes thick it causes a blockage of the sinus opening and can worsen the infection. |

In patients who are allergic to red wine, yeast, sulfites or other components found in alcohol, continuous consumption may compound the infection by causing allergic nasal swelling. |
