Foods that contain MSG (monosodium glutamate) often cause allergies in people. People usually complain of itchy skin or swollen eyes, etc. Amongst other causes, allergies are quite frequently the cause of sinusitis.
How do Allergies cause Sinusitis?
When allergens such as dust, pollen, dander, pets or grass get into your sinuses they irritate and inflame the mucus membranes. This causes your body to produce an excess amount of mucus to flush the irritant out and results in even more swelling of the mucus membranes and blockages. These blockages then cause the mucus within the sinuses to become stagnant and provides an environment in which bacteria can thrive. This bacteria then causes a sinus infection.
